A motorcyclist from Trawden has been killed following a road traffic collision on the A65 at Skipton last night.

The 49-year-old’s blue motorbike burst into flames when it collided with a grey Hyundai car at the junction with the A6131 Knaresborough Road at around 9-20pm.

The man, who has not yet been named, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where he was sadly pronounced dead.

Now, North Yorkshire Police are asking witnesses who saw the collision, or either vehicle prior to the incident, to step forward.

Officers are also trying to trace a man who stopped at the scene of the collision and used a fire extinguisher.

The man left without leaving his details and it is believed he may have information that can help police with their investigation.

Traffic Sgt Pete Stringer, of Skipton Roads Policing Group, said: “It is important that the man who helped at the scene comes forward as he could be a key witness.

“I urge him and anyone else who can help with our enquiries to make contact with the police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with any information should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for Pete Stringer or Traffic PC Paul Cockerill.
