Concerns over Colne care home proposals

Councillors and local residents have said they are concerned about the size of a proposed three-storey residential care home in Colne.

Plans were submitted to Pendle Council in April, for a new 82-bed development in Gibfield Road, with car parking and landscaping.

And while Coun. Graham Roach, Coun. Tony Greaves, and Coun. Dorothy Lord have welcomed the idea of transforming the former Ecroyd Training Centre and Boulsworth Hostel, and creating up to 100 jobs locally, they have asked if a meeting can be arranged with the applicants, Silk Healthcare Ltd.

Coun. Roach said he would like to ask “whether modifications could be made to alleviate concerns by local residents”.

Responding, Angela Swift, managing director at Silk Healthcare, said: “The new home will turn a former derelict site into a luxurious development that will provide residential, nursing and dementia care at an affordable price.

“I am sure it will be a great addition to the Colne area and we hope that local residents will recognise the positive investment that the new jobs will bring and the quality of care facilities we will be able to provide in an attractive and homely environment that will be developed to fit in with the local surroundings.”
