A father and daughter duo from Colne who completed a 1,780 mile trek in their unique Fiat car have given a £700 cheque to charity.

Roy and Melissa Jarvis visited Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice to hand over the cheque and have a look around the Sheffield site that inspired their fund-raising venture.

Melissa (20), who owns Townstoves, in Skipton Road, Foulridge, decided to take on the challenge after being touched by an advertisement on television.

During their journey, the pair took in sights at Lands’ End and John O’Groats, while taking it in turns to get behind the wheel.

Father-of-three Roy (46), of Harrison Drive, said: “We are really pleased with how much we have raised.

“We are now going to be doing something else for a local charity.”

And Gail Parkin, fund-raiser at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice said: “Roy and Melissa took on a huge challenge and we can not thank them enough for choosing to support Bluebell Wood.

“As we receive no statutory Government funding we rely on people like Roy and Melissa to continue to offer our services to children and young people with a shortened life expectancy.
