At a packed and passionate meeting in Higherford Mill local residents expressed some very strong views about Lancashire County Council’s Colne bypass proposals.

Organised by Higherford Residents’ Action Group, the meeting was attended by more than 60 residents.

Hugh Simpson, chairman of the action group, said: “We wanted to ensure residents had a real opportunity to influence what is a major proposal for their area. Thanks to Coun. Joe Cooney, they got a good explanation of the proposals, and then were able to express some very real and deep concerns.”

The meeting agreed a letter should be submitted on behalf of Higherford residents.

Susan Eames, secretary of the Action Group, said: “Our concerns were very real and fundamental – we even heard some of the people drawing up these proposals had not actually walked the possible routes to see for themselves what the reality is on the ground.

“As rate-payers we deserve better.”

The Action Group will submit residents’ views to the county council, lobbying key people and urging all concerned residents to do the same.
