Councillors in Earby are celebrating securing funds so that repairs can be carried out on Stoopes Hill in the town.
The £12,633 project was formally agreed at Pendle Council’s November West Craven Committee meeting and Coun. Chris Tennant described the result as “fantastic news”.
The popular pedestrian access route linking Water Street and Red Lion Street with Stoney Bank Road will be relayed with tarmac and have concrete edgings, and will include materials to provide non-slip grip for users on horseback.
In a Pendle Council report, it states the existing route is made up of “uneven” stone and soil and becomes overgrown in summer.
The report adds that the work would make the route more accessible for elderly and disabled users and more comfortable for everyday journeys.
Coun. Vera Cocker said: “It’s brilliant. It’s been a long time coming. Chris (Tennant) has worked very hard to secure the funds for this.
“It must be over three years since he got the support needed so that it could go forward to the funding stage.”
The work is set to be carried out before the end of March next year.
