A football fan accused of throwing a bottle at QPR star Joey Barton during a match at Turf Moor is set to face trial.

The defendant denies the charge of throwing a missile towards the playing field under the Football Offences Act 1991, Burnley magistrates heard.

He also earlier pleaded not guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards the Rangers player.

The case was adjourned pending further forensic evidence from the drinks bottle.

The defendant, of Cedar Avenue, Haslingden, will appear in court for the trial on March 21st of next year.

He was granted bail on condition he does not enter Burnley’s Turf Moor football ground.

The alleged incident took place during the Clarets Championship clash with QPR which the home side won 2-0.
