The Tuesday Group of walkers from Pendle Leisure Trust’s Out and About healthy walks scheme set off on a special Christmas walk over the border.

No, they did not get lost and stray into Scotland or Wales, but into the Ribble Valley area for a change.

Setting off from the Higher Trapp Hotel, Simonstone, 30 walkers and Meg, the border collie, took to the country roads and byways taking them through Simonstone to Read Hall, and Read Bridge before following the Roman Road back along the ridge above the Sabden valley, then down to the Higher Trapp for lunch

The weather was fine and sunny with very little wind, and the ground conditions, considering the amount of rain recently, were excellent for walking.

After lunch, thanks was given by Paul Holland, followed by the Tuesday Walks Organiser, Norman Mitchell, to Marjorie Smith for organising the lunch and leading the walk and to all walk leaders who turn up in all types of weather throughout the year.

Group spokesman Norman Mitchell said: “It makes the job of organising walks, from all the five venues on the Tuesday walks, worthwhile. Let’s hope year 2014 is just as successful.

“The walks, apart from being a healthy exercise, promote friendship amongst walkers, as today’s event just proves with the number of people here”.

If anyone is interested in joining the Tuesday Walking Group, contact Mr Mitchell on 772409. The walks all start at 10am and finish around 1pm from either Higham, Fence, Barden Mill, Sabden and Barley on a rota basis.
