Police have issued an appeal for information after a burglary at a house in Nelson on Friday night.

At some time between 8-45pm and 9pm, a house on Eckroyd Close was broken into when someone went into the back garden of the property via the side gate and smashed a panel in a patio door to get inside.

Once inside, they have searched several rooms, stealing several items including a laptop, a phone, a large amount of mens’ and ladies’ jewellery including rings and watches, the majority of which were in purple presentation boxes along with some money.

Officers have issued a description of a man seen nearby at the time of the offence and are urging anyone who saw any suspicious activity to come forward.

The man was described as being around five feet eight inches tall, of slim build and wearing dark clothing and a baseball cap. He was seen near the rear of the house and was then seen running out of the estate up towards Hibson Road.

PC James Walton said: “If anyone has any information about what happened or noticed anyone acting suspiciously around the address on Friday evening, I would ask them to come forward and get in touch.

“The victim is willing to offer a reward for any information passed directly to Lancashire Police that leads to the successful conviction of the person responsible.

“If anyone has any information that they think could assist in the investigation, please call us on 101 quoting log number LC-20131213-1473.”

Information can also be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or on-line at Crimestoppers-uk.org.
