A former Nelson woman who moved to Spain in November to retire with her husband has died suddenly.
Valerie Hartley (54), who spent almost all her working life with estate agents Petty and Clifford, Smith and Buchanan.
She had retired just weeks earlier from the job she had done since the age of 16 and moved to Murcia with her husband Frank.
Her sister Janice Bunkham said: “Valerie was very bubbly, lovely and loved by everybody. She was coming home with bunches of flowers when she retired from work.
“She loved shopping trips with her sister and mum. She retired six weeks ago to start a new dream life. It just seems so cruel.”
Everybody is welcome to attend a memorial service will take place at St Paul’s Church, Nelson on Sunday, January 9th, 2014 at 11am.
Valerie leaves behind her husband, mum Kathleen Smith, sister Janice, brother-in-law Brian and nephews Gareth and Michael.
