Earby was picture perfect for the town’s annual Christmas window competition as Pendle’s Mayor took a tour of the shops.

Coun. Smith Benson was joined on the judging panel by the Mayoress of Pendle Margaret Ingham and Earby Town Council representatives Coun. Barbara Knock and Coun. Jessica Spence.

And deciding which windows warranted prizes proved to be a bit of a pane for the panel, such was the level of competition this year.

But after popping in to all of the shops, the group retired for afternoon tea while the scores were tallied up. The results are as follows:

In Class One (Large Display areas) the top three were: 1, Felicitations (Card and fancy goods shop); 2, Julie Holmes (Hairdressers); 3, The Hospice Shop.

In Class Two (Small or Limited Display areas) the placings were: 1, Prince and King (Insurance etc.); 2, S. and B. Fruits (Water Street); 3, Janie Pitt (butcher).

Two special awards were also handed out to two householders, who have their properties among the shops, who had joined in the fun by decorating their windows.

Vera Cocker said: “We had a brilliant day, really good fun and the Mayor was on top form.

“He managed to pop into most of the shops and thoroughly enjoyed himself as indeed did the Mayoress.

“I thank everyone who took part and made it a lovely day, the Mayor commented on the warm welcome they has been given.”

All the prizes were chocolate and wine and provided by Earby Town Council’s Events Committee.
