Nurse guilty of misconduct

A former staff nurse at a Nelson care home has been found guilty of misconduct at a Nursery and Midwifery Council hearing.

Elizabeth Gallagher failed to administer medication to two residents at the Andrew Smith House Care Home in June, 2011 and falsely recorded the residents’ records to indicate she had done, the hearing found.

It also found Gallagher had failed to deal with a second resident’s admission to hospital in the same month, and allowed a third resident’s family to be told she had been taken to hospital when she had not.

Gallagher also failed to disclose her employment at and dismissal from Andrew Smith House in a job application in August, 2011.

She was also found to have falsified records of two more residents at another care home in November, 2011.

The hearing concluded her conduct had been dishonest and concluded that by reason of her misconduct, her fitness to practice had been impaired.
