Father Christmas’s sleigh was full with presents for children at Blacko Primary School and Derian House Children’s Hospice on a visit to the village.

Instead of the school’s pupils receiving a toy from Father Christmas, the Parent Teacher Association asked parents to donate a gift to Derian House.

All of the school’s pupils then received a selection box from Father Christmas and got the chance to ask him questions about his elves, reindeers and workshop in the North Pole, and check that his beard was real!

Jo Ogle, chairman of Blacko Primary School’s PTA, said: “As parents, we realise how privileged we are to have happy and healthy children so we thought it was important to teach our children that some children aren’t as lucky and spent Christmas receiving medical treatment or respite care.

“They were all really keen to buy a present to donate to Derian House and were really excited about meeting Father Christmas to help him hand them over to Roya from the charity.”

Roya Armstrong, Fundraising Co-ordinator at Derian House, added: “We are really grateful to the children and parents of Blacko School for this extremely generous donation of presents.

“They will help to spread some festive cheer to the children we are caring for over the Christmas period and to their brothers and sisters.”
