A fire which badly affected a taxi unit in Nelson has been identified as a suspected deliberate blaze.
Two fire engines from Nelson Fire Station used two breathing apparatus wearers and a hose-reel jet to extinguish the fire in the ground floor toilet and storeroom of A1 Taxis’ office in Rigby Street.
The ground floor of the two-storey building was well alight when the crews arrived.
It ended up with severe fire damage to the ground floor toilet and storeroom. And there was also light smoke damage on the first floor office.
The office was unoccupied and Nelson Fire Station Crew Manager Rob Barker said: “The fire looks to have been started deliberately and a joint investigation between the fire service and police is being carried out.
“Deliberate fires can cost lives. They also put a strain on fire service resources that may be required elsewhere. If you suspect any deliberate fires, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
