Thousands of Muslims parade through Nelson

Thousands of people took part in a procession around Nelson to celebrate the birthday of the Prophet of God Muhammad.

And as they walked, an aircraft flew around the town loads of times giving a message to everyone. It said: “We love Muhammad - Mercy to all Mankind”.

The thousands paraded from the Cental Ghousia Mosque on Clayton Street, Nelson, up Barkerhouse Road and across Larch Street and Chapelhouse Road, down Beaufort Street and Lomeshaye Road then on Every Street back to the mosque.

The mosque’s Imam, Hafiz Qari Khalid Mehmood, said: “Everything went very well and very peaceful. There were more people than we expected. It was very likely 8,000 to 9,000 or even 10,000 approximately.”
