Over the past few weeks, almost 1,000 people voted in the Pendle’s Best Independent Shop 2013 Awards launched by Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson.
Local residents were able to nominate and vote for their favourite shop - and The Green Chimney in Albert Road, Colne came out on top, with almost a quarter of the total votes cast!
There was a winner chosen in each town, and then one overall winner for the whole of Pendle.
Mr Stephenson said: “It’s fitting that so many people voted for The Green Chimney after the work the Hook family have put in to bringing a derelict shop back into use that had been an eyesore for many years.
“Pendle has some great independent shops, with many new ones opening recently, while more established retailers also continue to grow. That’s reflected in the individual town results”.
The individual town winners were:
• Colne - The Green Chimney.
• Barnoldswick - Decisions, Decisions.
• Nelson - Creative Gifts.
• Barrowford - Barrowford Pet Store.
• Brierfield - Kraftwork Precious Metals.
• Earby - X Transmission Bike Shop.
Announcing the results, Mr Stephenson said: “Pendle residents really do value our local town centres and high streets. The number of people who voted just proves that people will always respond to friendly customer service and genuine quality produce”.
Matthew Heap from Colne, who nominated The Green Chimney, was the lucky winner of the £100 voucher to spend in the shop.
Each winning shop will receive a certificate and a marketing and merchandising seminar courtesy of local man Ashley Sutcliffe, of liveliketheboy.co.uk
The owners of The Green Chimney will get the chance to have lunch with Andrew in Parliament, as well as one-on-one marketing and merchandising with Ashley and a certificate.
