New school “league tables” showing how Pendle high schools performed in last year’s GCSE examinations were published for the first time this week.

The tables show the percentage of pupils achieving five or more passes at A* to C grades and the percentage of pupils achieving the English Baccalaureate – five passes at grade C or above in English, maths, two sciences, a language and history or geography.

They also show the average points score per pupil in the exams – an A* grade scores 58 points and reduces by six points per grade down to grade G, which scores 16.

Fisher More RC High School, Colne, saw the most pupils achieve five or more passes with 64%, and almost a quarter achieved the baccalaureate.

But Park High School, Colne, scored an average of 561.3 points per pupil – more than 100 points more than any other school in Pendle.

The Venables Avenue school had 60% of pupils achieving five or more high grades, with West Craven High Technology College, Barnoldswick, seeing 59% of its pupils hit the mark.

The other Pendle schools – Pendle Vale College, Nelson, Marsden Heights Community College, Nelson (both 44%), Primet High School, Colne (43%) and Ghausia Girls High School (40%) – were all below the 50% line.

Other baccalaurate “scores” were Marsden Heights (19), West Craven (16), Park and Primet (both 15) and Pendle Vale (14), with Ghausia not registering a figure in the latest tables.

Average points figures were Marsden Heights (435), Fisher More (433), West Craven (425), Primet (420), Pendle Vale (415) and Ghausia (254).
