Police have launched an investigation after an 11-month-old baby was mauled to death by a dog in Blackburn.
At 11pm last night officers were called by the ambulance service to an address in Emily Street following reports that a baby girl had been mauled by a pet dog.
The baby was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital but died a short time later.
The dog has been seized by police and officers are continuing to carry out inquiries at the scene.
A 24-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman have both been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and are currently in police custody.
Det. Supt Simon Giles said: “This is a tragic incident and specially trained officers are offering support to the wider family. A full investigation is under way.”
