TWO Pendle women have organised a nine-month fund-raising campaign in aid of two hospices.

Avid fund-raisers Grace Holland (25), from Barnoldswick, and Lucy Moorhouse (27), from Barrowford, aim to raise £8,000 for Pendleside Hospice along with Manorlands Hospice, Keighley.

Their chain of events will culminate in a climb of Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro, in January.

They plan to conquer the 19,341 high dormant volcano in nine days, battling through night time temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees Centigrade.

The pair’s hectic fund-raising plans include car boot sales, a Jubilee garden party in June, Charity Ball in September, a bonfire in November, cake sales and raffles.

The first of the monthly car boot sale is on Sunday, April 22nd. These will take place on land by the B6251 heading out of Barnoldswick to Bracewell. Parking, catering and toilet facilities will be available. Gates open to sellers at 7 a.m. and to buyers at 7-30 a.m.

Grace, who works in marketing at the Co-operative in Manchester, has a personal link with Pendleside Hospice, as her partner’s grandfather was cared for there. Lucy also has family who were cared for at Pendleside, but has close links to Manorlands Hospice through her nursing work at Airedale Hospital.

The pair would appreciate support for their fund-raising events.
