Gale force winds have caused a slate to blow off a roof and trees to fall down in Pendle.
Emergency services and Lancashire County Council’s highways teams have dealt with a number of incidents in the borough throughout the afternoon.
Most recently, police and firefighters were called to Cotton Tree Lane at 2-40pm after a slate was blown off the roof of a property.
At 2pm a tree crashed down in Keighley Road, but no damage was caused to vehicles. Police confirmed that the main trunk of the tree was blocking one side of the road, and that they partially cleared the obstruction. County council representatives also attended the scene.
Another tree was also blown down just past The Old Stone Trough, in Kelbrook, just after 2pm.
A red warning for heavy winds across Lancashire is currently in place. It is expected to last until around 11pm. A wind reading of 80mph has already been reported in Foulridge.
The warning reads: “During this afternoon a swathe of exceptionally strong winds is expected to affect western parts of Wales and then some northwestern parts of England this evening, particularly in coastal areas. Winds are expected to gust 80mph widely and possibly reach 100mph.
“Winds of this strength can cause widespread structural damage, bringing down trees and also leading to loss of power supplies. In addition, large waves are likely to affect some coasts. The public should take action to alter their travel arrangements during this spell of storm force winds.”
Lancashire County Council have confirmed that priority routes in East Lancashire will be monitored tonight, and Northwest Electric are said to have cancelled all scheduled work to react to outages.
