Many homeowners are this morning assessing the damage after 80mph winds battered Pendle last night.
High winds caused building damage and travel chaos in Pendle throughout Wednesday as a house roof was damaged in Colne while trees were blown down in Carr Hall Road, Barrowford, and the main routes through Bracewell and Thornton-in-Craven.
County Coun. Paul White last night tweeted that Thornton was “completely impassable” while Bracewell was “barely passable and dangerous”.
Branches also partially blocked the road in Laneshaw Bridge for a period and Keighley Road in the village also flooded temporarily.
Torrential downpours and gale force winds had meant the Met Office issued a red weather warning for wind for the first time in two years.
During the afternoon, police and firefighters were called to Cotton Tree Lane in Colne at 2-40pm after a slate was blown off the roof of a property.
At 2pm a tree crashed down in Keighley Road, but no damage was caused to vehicles. Police confirmed that the main trunk of the tree was blocking one side of the road, and that they partially cleared the obstruction. County council representatives also attended the scene.
Another tree was also blown down close to The Old Stone Trough, in Kelbrook, just after 2pm when a wind reading of 80mph had already been reported in Foulridge.
