Long-standing councillor forced to stand down

A long-serving member of Pendle Council has been forced to stand down.

Coun. Shelagh Derwent, who has represented Blacko and Higherford as a Conservative councillor for many years, has not attended any meetings since July and must therefore vacate her seat under the Local Government Act 1972.

She had also served as the Lancashire County Councillor for the Pendle West division until the last election.

Her vacant seat will be declared at the full council meeting on Thursday and a by-election will be held on Thursday, April 3rd.
