Dangerous drivers were given a lesson in staying safe by Colne children.
Around 60 Year 3 pupils from Park Primary School joined PC Dave Cleal and PCSO Ailsa Gill as part of a police Road Watch scheme.
Eleven vehicles were stopped during the exercise, which took place close to Byron Road Community Centre. Drivers were given the option of a fixed penalty notice or being asked questions by the youngsters, who all wore hi-vis vests. They were also given a letter, and shown posters designed by the pupils.
Park Primary School’s learning mentor Nicola Sheridan said: “It was really good - the children loved it, and thought it was brilliant.
“It was all about trying to get drivers to be aware. The parents think it is a great idea, and have been really supportive.
“The police have taken the posters they have made away so they can turn it into a banner we can put outside school.
And a spokesman for Colne and West Craven Police added: “The children went out in awful weather... to engage and educate those drivers who fail to comply with the law.
“The team stopped 11 vehicles, most of the drivers of these were not wearing seatbelts.
“One was using his mobile phone whilst driving and another was both speeding and driving without a seatbelt.
“Most drivers appeared apologetic as the children asked why they failed to wear seatbelts or why they were using the phone. All the children enjoyed the afternoon.”
