A Nelson man who punched a man while on licence from prison has been sent back to jail.

William Penman (27) of Arthur Street admitted unlawful wounding at Burnley Crown Court.

Mr Stephen Parker (prosecuting) told the court Penman had been cycling along Albert Road, Colne when he spotted Jamie Ellerton with whom he had been in a family dispute.

Mr Parker said: “The defendant then approached Mr Ellerton and punched him to the face, knocking his tooth out.”

Mr Timothy Brennand (defending) said there had been “on-going tension between the two families”.

Recorder John Bromley-Davenport gave Penman a 12 month prison sentence. He said: “You acted in a considerably foolish, bullying and unpleasant way.”
