Burnley FC chiefs have slammed Clarets fans apparently filmed shouting homophobic chants on an undercover TV documentary.

Club bosses say they were “extremely disappointed” to appear on Channel 4’s “Dispatches Undercover” programme “Hate on the Terraces” which exposed discrimination and offensive behaviour at English football grounds.

Some Burnley fans were secretly recorded shouting homophobic abuse at supporters of Brighton and Hove Albion during an away game with the south coast club earlier this season.

Images of fans believed to be behind the chanting were taken from the programme and club officials urged anyone who can identify them to contact the club confidentially.

A Burnley FC spokesman said: “Burnley Football Club’s Board of Directors, players and staff, along with the people of Burnley, reject all forms of discrimination.

“We pledge to tackle discrimination in all forms and make Turf Moor a safe and welcoming place for all.

“Anyone witnessing instances of racist, homophobic, sexist or any other unwarranted form of behaviour is asked to report this to the nearest steward, or member of club staff.

“The club will not tolerate behaviour of this kind and will take the strictest possible action to remove those responsible.”

Anyone with information on any incidents at Turf Moor can contact the club confidentially on info@burnleyfc.com
