A dedicated fund-raiser is hoping to raise money for a charity close to her heart when she runs the Pennine 10K in June.

Donna Oiller, of Bleinhem Street, Colne, is currently in training for the popular Burnley event, which last year attracted over 1,500 runners.

She aims to drive up funds for SEED Eating Disorder Support Services - a charity that offers help and advice to sufferers and their carers. Gemma Oaten, best known as Emmerdale’s Rachel Breckle, is a patron of the charity,

The 32-year-old, who is a secretary at Pendle House, in Leeds Road, Nelson, and who has also spoken out as part of Eating Disorders Awareness Week, said: “I have chosen SEED because of my own personal experiences. When I heard about the charity, I thought how good it was, and it’s only something that I found out about after my own experiences.

“Having services such as these is invaluable to sufferers and families to enable them to move forward.

“The media also has a role to play in portraying a positive image for young people, not labelling ‘celebrities’ fat or overweight, or plump, when in reality there are just normal men or women.

This is the second time that Donna has run the Pennine 10K, and this time round she hopes to exceed her sponsorship of over £200 and her running time of approximately 65 minutes.

She is currently in training, attending the gym, and going running and swimming.

The animal lover had previously raised money for the Turner Syndrome Support Society, since she lives with the rare chromosome disorder herself. The condition affects about one in every 2,000 baby girls.

Donna, who will be taking part in the event with her best friend Faye, added: “I loved it last year - the atmosphere was really good. I might dress up this time as well, depending on how brave I feel.”

Donna is also considering taking part in the Bupa Great Manchester Run.
