Pendle Council will be raising a flag at Nelson Town Hall to mark Commonweath Day at a special cemerony on Monday.
Local authorities throughout the country have been invited to take part in the Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth initiative to mark the annual celebration.
The navy blue and yellow flag will be raised in the presence of the Mayor of Pendle, Coun. Smith Benson, at 10am and will be flown all day.
On the day, the chairman of St John Southworth RC School Council will hand over the Commonwealth Day flag to the Mayor, who will then read out the Commonwealth Affirmation.
This will take place inside the Town Hall.
Guests will then congregate outside the Town Hall to the viewing point near Number One Market Street. Members of the public are invited to gather outside the front of the Town Hall shortly before 10am to see the raising of the flag.
The Mayor said: “I understand that 500 Commonwealth flags are being raised across the nation at the same time. It is great that we are able to support this new initiative.”
