Councillors have deferred a decision on plans for a major development of a derelict mill site in Colne after receiving an amended air quality assessment on the day of their meeting.
Members of Pendle Council’s Colne and District Committee were presented with a short report which recommended approval of the application to build a Lidl foodstore and a Marstons pub on the Glen Mills site in North Valley Road.
The original report to councillors had recommended refusal, with air quality given as one of the reasons.
But Coun. Tony Greaves said that members had been presented with a lot of information at the last minute.
“We have been given two paragraphs and there is as much as 12 pages online.
“I do not think we are in a position to make a decision at the moment and we should defer this until our next meeting,” he said.
Earlier in the debate, councillors heard from Anthony Roberts, from AJ Car Sales, whose Hanover Street business is adjacent to the site.
He asked members to resist making the site access from Hanover Street as this would make access to his business impossible and shut it down.
Several councillors also questioned the feasibility of access from Hanover Street and said this could lead to traffic using streets on the North Valley estate as “rat runs”.
