Tubbs shop conversion plan approved

Plans to convert Colne’s former police station into a restaurant and bar have been approved.

Members of Pendle Council’s Colne and District Committee gave the green light for the change of use at the former Tubbs of Colne china and crystalware shop after receiving amended plans which showed a proposed rear extension had been removed and an external staircase repositioned.

The committee had originally been recommended to refuse permission because of the overbearing nature of the extension.

Local resident Matthew Eyre described the plan as “great news”.

He told the committee the building had been empty since 2008 and bringing it back into use would improve the appearance of the main road into Colne as well as having a positive impact on jobs.

Councillors asked for conditions to be attached to the granting of permission regarding the use of appropriate stone in external works.

Coun. Tony Greaves said natural stone in keeping with the rest of Albert Road should be used.
