A coroner has recorded a verdict of misadventure at into the death of a Nelson man who died from the effects of drug toxicity.
Burnley Coroners’ Court was told that John Paul Head (39), of Garden Street, was found dead at his home by his mother, Janet, on August 31st.
The unemployed father-of-two had suffered from a number of problems, including anxiety, depression and chronic back pain. He was taking anti-depressant and anti-epilepsy medication as well as morphine.
Pathologist Dr Walid Salman said tests revealed traces of morphine and cannabis as well as an anti-epileptic drug.
Mrs Head said that her son had lived with her since the breakdown of his marriage and thought he might have been abusing his medication to try to deal with his problems.
East Lancashire Coroner Mr Richard Taylor said it seemed Mr Head had tried to self-medicate with a little more than he should have been taking.
