Police have this evening confirmed that a man has been found hanged in woods in Nelson.
Emergency services were called to an area of woodland near the Hard Platts in Manchester Road, Nelson, mid afternoon today after a dog walker called 999 on discovering the body.
Police have not released the identity of the victim.
A police spokesman confirmed a body had been found but the death was not being treated as suspicious. Initial speculation that a murder investigation was underway has been dismissed.
