Daughter organises pub crawl in Colne dad’s memory

A devoted Colne daughter will be joining her late dad’s family and friends over the weekend to raise a glass in his name.

Laura Valentine (31), of Birtwistle Avenue, is organising a pub crawl on Saturday to commemorate what would have been Peter (Pedro) Valentine’s 61st birthday.

Mr Valentine, a former steward at the Tackler’s Club and former military veteran, died suddenly in September last year. The crawl will begin at the Queens Hotel, in Burnley Road, at 2pm, and all money raised throughout the afternoon will be donated to Help For Heroes.

Miss Valentine said: “From what I have heard about 100 people are wanting to attend.

“It is doing me good and taking my mind off things, and is giving me a positive approach to his birthday rather than seeing it as a day where he is just not going to be here.

“A lot of family are coming, and hopefully we will have a good day. I am looking forward to hearing lots of different stories from different people who knew my dad. I think he would have been proud.”

In December, a commemorative plaque was unveiled at Mr Valentine’s local pub, The Duke of Lancaster.

Help for Heroes helped fund and organise the tribute, and now Miss Valentine says she wants to give something back. Her brother Liam will be taking on the Tough Mudder Challenge later in the year.
