Today Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans returned to Preston Crown Court to start the second week of his trial on charges of six sexual assaults, a rape and two indecent assaults on men.
The trial of the long-standing MP and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, who refutes all the claims made against him, is expected to last up to five weeks.
Today the court heard Conservative MP Michael Fabricant say he thought it was “out of character” after being told Evans had sexually assaulted a young man.
Mr Fabricant, the current vice chairman of the Conservative Party and MP for Lichfield, told the jury he heard the allegation about his “good friend” Nigel Evans in July, 2009.
The alleged offences are said to have taken place on various dates between 2002 and last year.
