We live in a world of ever-increasing centralisation, especially in our health service.
When Burnley lost its own A&E Department, many people feared it was the end for urgent care facilities in the area.
But I guess we have to be thankful for small mercies and the unveiling of the new urgent care centre at Burnley General Hospital gives us more than a few crumbs of comfort.
The facility affords much the old A&E offered, although it will never replace the loss of our former blue light facilities.
We may have lost our A&E, but at least we have some urgent care provision. That cannot be said for all areas.
