Council by-election today

Voters in the Blacko and Higherford ward go to the polls today to elect a new Pendle councillor.

The vacancy has been brought about by the enforced disqualification from office of Coun. Shelagh Derwent, who did not attend meetings over a six-month period between September and February.

Four candidates are standing for election – Noel McEvoy is attempting to retain the seat for the Conservatives, local party official Robert Oliver is the Labour candidate, former Burnley councillor Darren Reynolds represents the Liberal Democrats and the UK Independence party candidate is Michael Waddington.
