A quacking time was had by all at Kelbrook’s Grand Annual Duck Race on Saturday.
Six hundred feathery friends frantically swam down the beck across the children’s and adult races and at £1 a duck, this helped raise £865 for Kelbrook and Sough Village Hall.
Amelia Norcross’s duck was first past the post in the children’s race while Michael Crabtree’s duck finished ahead of the others in the adult’s race in a rapid time.
Last year, the event was cancelled due to the freezing weather and snow drifts and Graham Wells, Chief Duck Race Organiser, has welcomed a mild spring.
He said: “It was a superb day. We had lots of entries in the best decorated duck competition, far more than in previous years.
“Everybody had done a fantastic job selling the ducks and we’re very pleased with what we have raised.
“Obviously the kitchen did well. I eventually got in for a cake and coffee and there were three cakes left it was so busy. Thanks to all who helped out on the day to make it a success.”
The funds raised will go towards renovation work which is currently taking place in the village hall.
The next fund-raising event for Kelbrook and Sough Village Hall will be the Scarecrow Trail on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, May 17th and 18th.
