Colne Horticultural Society’s annual Daffodil and Spring Flower Show has been described as a huge success.

Attended by around 100, the event at North Valley Community Centre was visited by the Mayor of Pendle, Coun. Smith Benson.

It saw a record number of exhibitors and according to president of the society John Gott, negotiations will soon be underway on how to make next year’s show even bigger and better. 2015 marks the centenary year of Colne Horticultural Society.

Mr Gott said: “It went well and people were saying that it was a lovely day.

“I would say that it was one of the most successful - we had 35 exhibitors and I think that is the most we have ever had, without including schoolchildren who have taken part. “We are hoping for a bigger one next year.”

And society secretary Rosey Thompson added: “Not only was the flower section delightful, we also had a lot of entries in the baking section as well.

“There was a lovely atmosphere, and the Mayor spent a lot of time enjoying the show.”

Winners at the show included:

Daffodil Championship Trophy (Hannah Goodall): Alan Greenwood; Daffodil Society Medal (Best Exhibit in Show): Frank Hartnell: Samuel Twynham Memorial Trophy (Bee Jayess): Tom Alty; President’s Trophy (Most Points in Show): Tom Alty; Committee Members Cup: Eileen Windle.
