A woman from Nelson must pay £600 after she was prosecuted for leaving her bin out after collection day.
Terri Holden, of Hallam Road, did not attend court but the case proceeded in her absence and Pennine magistrates found the case proved and ordered her to pay a fine of £400 plus a £40 victim surcharge and legal costs of £160.
David Walker, Pendle Council’s Waste Services Manager, said: “People who leave out their bins long after collection day have no regard for the appearance of their neighbourhood.
“We can and do – as this prosecution proves – take action against people who persistently do this.
“Hopefully this prosecution will make other people think twice about leaving their bins out in the future.”
Staff from Pendle Council witnessed Miss Holden’s bins left out on the back street in November.
She was sent her a letter asking her to take them in but the bins were still on the back street on December 9th.
She was issued with a notice later in the month but continued to leave her bins out on the back street and on January 29th, was issued with a fixed penalty notice.
Despite being sent a reminder in February, she did not pay the £80 fine which resulted in the court proceedings.
Mr Walker added: “You can put out your bins and recycling boxes before 7-30am on your collection day, but certainly no earlier than 6pm the day before.”
