On your marks, get set, go!

Pendle’s first parkrun sets off on Saturday, May 10th – are you joining in the run?

The weekly, free, timed 5km runs will start at Holt House, Colne, and take runners around the playing fields and through Alkincoats Park.

“parkrun” is an international movement organising free, weekly runs worldwide at 9am every Saturday. It is for people of all abilities – from those taking their first steps in running to budding Olympians.

Pendle Council has been working with Lancashire County Council and local volunteers to bring parkrun to Pendle.

Kieron Roberts, of Pendle Council, said: “The response from local people has been fantastic. We’ve been lucky to have experienced volunteers come forward to help run and manage parkrun events in Pendle. Our trial run in April went well. Now everyone’s excited about bringing parkrun to Pendle.”

Jamie McIlvenny, run director, said: “I started running at the parkrun in Burnley, where the atmosphere is fantastic. It’s a great way to start the weekend and I was amazed how simple it was to take part - just register online and turn up. I hope Pendle parkrun can add to the Burnley event by offering runners and joggers of Pendle - young and old - a local and friendly run.”

Runners should arrive to Holt House by 8-45am. To join in, register on www.parkrun.org.uk/register. Registered runners will then receive barcode which they must take to each event to be scanned.
