A former Colne man who featured in the television series “The Apprentice” in 2012 is taking on the challenge of the BUPA Great Manchester Run on Sunday.
Azhar Siddique (35) and his brother Khuram (29) will make the run on behalf of their 42-year-old sister Azami, who suffers from multiple sclerosis and currently manages her daughter’s ice cream parlour in Colne.
The brothers aim to raise £1,000 for the MS Society – and Azhar has decided to run in his business suit.
Azhar said: “Despite her mobility, she still leads a full and active life albeit a little more difficult, but she’s remained strong-willed, determined and positive. We know the impact this condition has had on our sister’s life and those around her so we wanted to raise money for the MS Society.”
He admits running in a suit will be a challenge: “I’ve been training for a while, as I’ve run numerous full and half marathons in the past, but last week was the first time I’ve worn my suit while training and it’s a lot tougher than it looks.
“After 3km my body temperature starts to rise and it becomes very uncomfortable. I was so tempted to just take it off there and then.
“Sunday will be the first time I’ll be running the full 10k in my suit so it’ll be interesting to see how I feel. The fact it’s for the MS Society will give me the adrenaline push to keep going. Maybe this time I won’t have a people looking at me as if I was late for a meeting!”
