Britain’s “Mr Cycling”, Brian Cookson, will take time out of his busy schedule to open a new sports injury clinic.

He will be at Hawthorne Business Park, off Lincoln Way, Clitheroe, on Sunday at 12 noon to support Nick Dinsdale, former GB team therapist and British ex-champ, at NJD Sports Injury Clinic.

Nick, who lives in Clitheroe, is in partnership with his daughter, Nicola, who is managing director, and her partner Garth Spencer. All three have masters degrees in different aspects of sports injuries, rehabilitation, strength and conditioning.

The clinic started at Moorland Crescent, but when Nick tried to find bigger premises in town he was thwarted by planning regulations that demanded four parking spaces for each treatment room.

He said: “We were more or less forced out of town. We took a unit at the former 3M site and we’ve invested a lot of money to create this clinic.

“Although we specialise in sports injuries, about half our clients have non-sport injuries, such as from gardening or lifting.”

Special guest Mr Cookson, from Whalley, boosted cycling as president of British Cycling and is now president of Union Cycliste Internationale, currently leading the campaign against drug use.

Nick said: “Brian has been a client for years, and we’ll be proud to have him open the clinic.”

lThe clinic will be open on Sunday from 11-30 am until 4 pm, but because of his tight schedule Mr Cookson will only be there for a short period and those wanting to see or meet him are advised to be at the clinic at 12 noon.
