Friends and family turn out to funeral of Colne landlord

The funeral of a much-loved and well-respected Colne landlord has taken place this week.

Andrew Gildea (57), who would have turned 58 on Tuesday, died following a short battle with lung cancer last month. A service was held at Burnley Crematorium on Wednesday, and was attended by many of his family and friends.

Mr Gildea, a former pupil of Colne Grammar School, who was affectionately known as Gilly to his friends, worked in the printing trade for a large portion of his life. He took on various other jobs, before becoming the landlord of the Lord Rodney in 2012.

It was a position that the music lover and Burnley FC fan had been enjoying immensely, his social skills and warm personality making him popular with pub regulars.

In his younger days, he enjoyed playing football, as well as spending time sailing. He never moved away from the area, living in both Colne and Laneshaw Bridge.

Andrew, who was also a proud uncle, is survived by his parents Bernard and Sheila, and siblings Michael, Sheila and David.
