Parish council members will continue to renovate their village war memorial - despite a funding bid being turned down by a Colne committee.
Foulridge Parish Council requested £2,000 from councillors at the latest Colne and District Committee meeting.
The money would have been put towards the £8,365 cost that is needed to give the memorial a new lease of life.
But with rising financial pressures, it was decided that the responsibility for the full restoration should now lie with the applicant.
According to Graham Cannon, chairman of Foulridge Parish Council, the news has come as a disappointment, but will not prevent work going ahead in the World War One centenary year.
He said: “We are of course disappointed not to receive assistance from Pendle Council for renovation of the War Memorial.
“However we do understand the financial pressure that Pendle Council, and indeed most of us, are under as we slowly recover from the disastrous pre-2008 decade.
“Because of the importance of the upcoming 100th anniversary of the first World War the Parish is going ahead with the work and the Nelson contractor Stone Edge hopes to start soon. Some funding has been obtained from the War Memorial Trust.
“We look forward to a bright clean and safe memorial in November for the anniversary.”
A plan is to be agreed with Foulridge Parish Council and the War Memorial Trust for future maintenance costs.
It will look at surveying the memorial annually to prevent costs from escalating.
