Thieves who have stolen plants from around Nelson’s war memorial have been branded as “ignorant yobs”.
The theft was discovered on Thursday night as Nelson in Bloom volunteers were working in the town centre and its news was posted on social media by Nelson man Mark Salmon, who expressed his disgust at what had happened after the hard work put in by the team.
And Nelson and District Royal British Legion official Michael Sutcliff said: “As the community comes together for the centenary of the outbreak of the Great War, we do not need ignorant yobs going round wrecking their efforts,
“It is a disgrace and I trust that when they are caught the magistrates will deal with them in an appropriate manner.”
