A dedicated runner has gone the extra mile for nursing home residents by completing two marathons in one day.

John Rawcliffe, activities co-ordinator at Peel Gardens, took on the arduous challenge in a bid to raise money for the residents’ fund.

The 48-year-old finished the 52.4m treadmill trek in nine hours and 20 minutes, and managed to raise £100 for his efforts.

Mr Rawcliffe, who last year ran five marathons in five days, said: “I am really pleased I did it. The money raised is going into the residents’ fund, so that we can bring entertainment into the nursing home, and organise outings.

“It is always great to see the faces of residents when shows are put on.”

As well as clocking up miles for the fund, Mr Rawcliffe also hosted a family friendly fête at the nursing home.

The event, which included a raffle, a range of stalls, and children’s activities, saw around 40 people in attendance. The day also raised £100.

Mr Rawcliffe added: “It was a really good day and went really well. We got a really good response, and it got really busy in the afternoon.”

To make a donation you can pop into Peel Gardens or ring Mr Rawcliffe on 07842166561.
