A pensioner has been taken to hospital with suspected spinal injuries following a four-car crash in Colne.

Emergency services were called to the incident outside the Golden Ball Inn, in Burnley Road, at around 3-40pm yesterday.

Police confirmed that a Kia Picanto, a Vauxhall Astra and a Renault Captur were all involved in the collision, and that a man had been taken to Royal Preston Hospital. It is believed the man, who North West Ambulance Service confirmed is in his 80s, had crashed into a bus shelter.

He had complained of chest and leg pain following the collision.

A spokesman from Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: “Fire crews from both Nelson and Colne fire stations attended a road traffic collision on Burnley Road, Colne near the junction with the A6068.

“The incident involved several vehicles and the elderly occupant of one vehicle required medical treatment at the scene by paramedics.

“In order to facilitate his removal from the vehicle fire crews proceeded to remove the roof of the car using hydraulic cutting equipment. The driver was then conveyed to hospital via ambulance.”
