A letter sent out by a Pendle primary school to its Year 6 pupils caused something of a media storm this week.
Barrowford Primary School sent the letter out to pupils along with Key Stage 2 examination results – and it was picked by Radio 5 Live news and the Women’s Hour programme as well as social media networks today.
The Rushton Street school enjoyed its best ever results in 2014 – but headteacher Rachel Tomlinson says in the letter that while the pupils should be very proud of the results, there are many other ways of being smart.
“We are very proud of you as you demonstrated huge amounts of commitment and tried your very best during this tricky week.
“The people who create these tests and score them do not know each of you the way your teachers do, the way I do and certainly not the way your families do.
“The scores you get will tell you something, but they will not tell you everything,” says the letter.
