Turbine plans recommended for approval

Plans to erect a 34.5 metre high wind turbine at a farm above Nelson are recommended for approval when they go before councillors on Monday night.

The turbine at Floyt Bridge Farm in Delves Lane would, if approved, be the second one to be erected on the site and bring the total number of turbines in the immediate surrounding area to 15.

In her report to Pendle Council’s Nelson Committee, planning officer Kathryn Hughes says: “It is clear from the photomontages and wireframe drawings submitted with the application the extent to which the proposed turbine would be seen collectively in views with existing and proposed turbines from public viewpoints and this area is now reaching a limit where the balance could be tipped towards substantial cumulative harm to the character of the landscape and visual amenity.

“However, the impact of this particular turbine would not be so significant due to its location and distances to the other turbines and therefore the cumulative impact on this landscape would not be significant and would not cause such an unacceptable level of harm to the character of the landscape and the visual amenity of the area to warrant a refusal.”
