Leila Neve: ‘Summer brings new challenges’

Hi everyone! Happy summer to you all, it’s certainly been a scorcher of late! I hope you’ve had your cream on…

The weather has brought new challenges to our family. As part of Charlotte’s condition following her stroke, she experiences hugely debilitating fatigue, which is something I’ve written about before.

It would appear that the heat we have recently been treated to, makes this fatigue even worse so unfortunately she’s been spending a lot of time indoors and asleep.

My heart has really gone out to her over the last couple of weeks as I’ve watched her body and her brain try to cope.

I’ve also just read the transcript of the recent debate that took place in the House of Lords specifically on childhood stroke and found it interesting to read the reactions of some of the members of the House of Lords as well as some of the questions it raised.

Every single point raised was exactly the same as the points we raised when Charlotte became ill.

Reactions such as shock at the knowledge that children have strokes and that it isn’t something which just affects the elderly and surprise at the number of children having strokes (approximately 400 per year in the UK). Questions raised such as what facilities are there? What still needs to be done?

Reading this has definitely spurred me on to keep Lottie’s Army fighting for better awareness, treatment, rehabilitation and support for these amazing, brave children and their families.
