Colne resident and former Conservative Pendle councillor George Askew completed the Yorkshire Tough Mudder in Skipton – raising £1,200 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Tough Mudder is a gruelling 12-mile obstacle course. The 25 obstacles include swimming through an ice bath, crawling through tunnels and under-barbed wire, climbing over 12ft walls and through a lot of mud.

The course came under some controversy as two obstacles involve navigating through dangling wires ready to give participants a 10,000-volt electric shock and participants must sign a waiver releasing the organisers of all legal responsibility.

George was running the course to raise money for Macmillan, who have helped his mum who has terminal cancer.

He said: “This was one of the hardest things I’ve done in my life but I am so grateful to everyone who sponsored me to raise money for a charity who have helped my family so much.

“The donations helped me get through it even after I was electrocuted for the third time! A few days later and I’m still covered in bruises and cuts but it was worth it.”

It’s not too late to sponsor George. You can find his donation page at: {http://www.justgiving.com/George-Askew|www.justgiving.com/George-Askew}

George was a Pendle councillor but then moved away. But he is back here now.
