Torrential downpours did not deter the spirits of organisers, participants and visitors at this year’s Trawden Agricultural Show.
Although this year’s popular event did see a drop in visitors, there were a record number of exhibits showcased in a diverse range of categories.
Around 2,000 people flocked to Trawden Recreation Ground for the day, which included a knobbly knee competition and attendance from more than 120 local businesses, crafters and community organisations. Among other highlights were performances from award-winning dance group Rock-It! and a dry stone walling competition.
Local dignitaries including Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson and Pendle Mayor and Mayoress Coun. Graham Roach and Joanna Sagar also supported the event.
A show spokesman said: “After a beautiful couple of months, the morning of Trawden Agricultural Show and Boulsworth Fell Race
started grey and quickly turned into a deluge of rain, rain and rain.
“Apart from the weather, it was good, and we had more exhibits than we have ever had in all the sections.
“We will have a loss, and there is lots of fund-raising to do, but organisers are pleased overall.
“We are also making enquiries as a sign was put at the top of the road saying ‘Show Closed’ and we got quite a lot of phone calls, and somebody had to go and take it down. Whoever did it needs to know their actions contributed to a lower gate.”
A total of 110 runners took part in the fell races, with Jacob Boyle (Hyndburn AC) winning the senior race in 42 minutes and 26 seconds and Holly Page (Calder Valley) coming first in the ladies race in a time of 46 minutes and 50 seconds.
Paul Hesketh (Clayton Harriers) was the first vet home (V45) in 46 minutes and 25 seconds and the 1st female vet was also in the V45 category - Lynne Clough from Chorley AC in a time of 50 minutes and 32 seconds.
